One of our favorite newly discovered (by us) home health remedies is oil pulling for oral health. The practice of oil pulling is an ancient tradition in the East. Oil pulling has been practiced by Ayurvedic medicine practitioners for centuries to promote oral health.
In my experience, not only has coconut oil pulling whitened my teeth, coconut oil has been very effective at cleaning my mouth completely by removing bacteria. Dr. Axe likes it too. By pulling the bacteria from my teeth, gums, and tongue, coconut oil has consistently left me feeling cleaner that with brushing and flossing alone.
Pro Tip: Surely you’ve noticed that coconut oil changes from a liquid to a solid depending on its temperature. With this in mind, you should be sure to protect your homes plumbing from solidified coconut oil in the drain line. Instead of spitting the oil into your sink, keep a plastic bag close by while the oil is in your mouth. There are two reasons for this. First is that you may find that the volume of liquid in your mouth will increase as saliva enters your mouth. You may want to release some of this into the plastic bag. Second, after 10-20 minutes, spit out the entire amount of oil in the plastic bag and dispose in your trash. Now your home is still able to drain water as it is meant to do.
Once you’ve spit the oil into the plastic bag be sure to rinse your mouth with warm water in order to remove any excess oil still hiding in your mouth.
You’ll be left feeling confident with clean fresh breath.
