Nobody here at the salon likes to talk about age but it may be the discussion we should have if we can't find another way to introduce the subject of kefir.
Kefir is similar to a drinkable yogurt with a slightly tart flavor similar to greek yogurt or sour cream.
In our experience gut problems seem to be caused by a lack of "good" gut bacteria which was causing much discomfort and I was unable to find any solution until a friend suggested I try drinking a small glass of kefir daily. It has been effective at reducing much of the pain and stress on the stomach.
Kefir is a drink usually made from milk (dairy or goat) or fruit juice. The best thing about kefir is that it is loaded with probiotics, defined by the WHO (World Health Organization) as, "live micro-organisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host".
Probiotics add "good" bacteria to your digestive system and provides the body with a wide range of health benefits.
I recommend reading Dr. Axe's list of 7 benefits of drinking kefir. It's a lenghty article and is very informative on all aspects of kefir.
Still others have talked about kefirs help with weight loss due to its low calorie count coupled with a high nutritional value. You can check that out for yourself here.
Finally, if you're lactose intolerant you should consider kefir, especially goat kefir, as a substitute for traditional dairy products in many of your food recipes. We here at the salon can confirm that mashed potatoes with goat milk kefir come out just right.
